Functioning of the University Keeping the mission in mind the university embarked upon the idea of developing a three level system of functioning. The Head Quarter (HQ) of the university is situated at Bhopal. Eleven Regional Centres and one sub-Regional Centre of the university are located at Bhopal, Bilaspur, Durg, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, Jagdalpur (Bastar), Raipur, Sagar, Ujjain, Rewa, and Satna work under the directives of the university HQ, as the regional link centres for the delivery of the university programmes through 1049 study centres. |

Keeping the mission in mind the university embarked upon the idea of developing a three level system of functioning. The Head Quarter (HQ) of the university is situated at Bhopal. Eleven Regional Centres and one sub-Regional Centre of the university are located at Bhopal, Bilaspur, Durg, Gwalior, Indore, Jabalpur, Jagdalpur (Bastar), Raipur, Sagar, Ujjain, Rewa, and Satna work under the directives of the university HQ, as the regional link centres for the delivery of the university programmes through 1049 study centres. These study centres are located in M.P, Chhattisgarh and in major cities of the country. The work of the study centres is to manage the academic and administrative responsibilities of the university concerned to the respective study centre and to impart education to the students as per directives of university Head Quarter through concerning regional centres. The functioning of the university is illustrated in a diagrammatic fashion also famous as “The Bhoj Model” which is now being adopted by various upcoming state open universities of the country.

The University has already set up the following categories of the study centres. q
RAJIV GANDHI
MULTIPURPOSE STUDY CENTRES (N=195): Imparting
education mostly at under graduate level is the aim of these centres and
99% of such centres are at places where there are no other facilities of
higher education. So far, 33% of such centres are in tribal dominated
areas of the State. The Govt. schools are working under this scheme as
study centre. q
COLLEGIATE UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMME CENTERS (N=15): Sixty-five
study centres have been established across the state in different
Government Colleges for undergraduate courses of the University.. q
STUDY CENTRES
FOR MEDICAL-KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL UPGRADATION OF RURAL DOCTORS AND
PARAMEDICOS IN THE AREA OF RCH (N=10) AND NUTRITION: The state of Madhya Pradesh has unfortunately a very high rate of infant
mortality connected with Reproductive Child Health (RCH). Jointly with the
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, the MPBOU is
handling knowledge and skill upgradation through training of rural doctors
and Paramedics through ten study centres at Raisen, Chhindwara, Jhabua,
Morena, Jabalpur, Raipur, Bilaspur, Tikamgarh, Rewa and Mandla. The
University is running diploma level courses in Nutrition. q
NATIONAL
LEVEL STUDY CENTERS FOR THE B.ED. (SEDE): B.ED. (SEDE)
programme is operating in 15 States under the guidance of qualified study
Coordinators. The state level Study Centres for B.Ed. (GE-DE) programme has
been established in Government Colleges of Education of M.P. and
Chhattisgarh States. |

One
regional centre specially created in Bastar area of Chattisgarh with heavy
tribal population to focus on effective delivery of the university’s
programmes for the target group of learners from the tribal areas. q
About 95%
of the university’s student population is from rural, remote and less
developed areas. q
Study
Centres for Under Graduate degree programmes through Higher Secondary
Schools: §
195 Study Centres functional in Schools to provide
higher education in remote, less developed areas of the state of Madhya
Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. §
All the 195 study centres are in the process of being
converted into multimedia study centres with satellite based connectivity
using EDUSAT network. §
Out of eleven regional centres five regional centres
are connected through internet §
Numerous study centres have been established across the
state in different Government Colleges for undergraduate courses of the
university. |

7 Pre Exam Training Centres (PETC) to train SC/ST
students for competitive and other exams. q
Computer Education for Economic Rehabilitation of the
victims of Bhopal Gas Tragedy. One special study centre has been
established by the university for training
of such target groups. q The B.Ed. (Special Education-Distance Education) programme are being developed and implemented within the framework of the National Goal of INDIA 2020 with a broad perspective of human development in twenty first century in the age of cybernetics and globalisation.

The National Undergraduate Programme supported by
the Department of atomic Energy and Department of space, Government of
India. q
Prof. C.S. Seshadri, FRS (London), Director,
Chennai Mathematical Institute and MPBOU is conducting this programme. The
university selects thirty students through an All India entrance
examination conducted at Bhopal, Kolkota, Chandigarh, Delhi, Mumbai,
Hydrabad and Chennai. Distinguished scholars drawn from well-known
institutes in the country and abroad are participating in the training of
the selected students.

The university caters to the needs of
Primary/Secondary/Higher education learners through various programmes and
projects like Gyansansar, CLASS/CLAP project, and SSA Project. q
The university has established Gyanvani FM channel in
collaboration with Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New
Delhi during 2002-03 for radio conferencing and broadcasting lectures. q
The university has a well-established library. Modern
computer and multimedia Production facilities are available both at
university at HQ and Regional Centres. q
The Information communication Technology (ICT) centre
for e Learning has been established in 2003-04 for on-line and web based
education. q
Satellite Interactive Terminal installed at the HQ,
soon to be installed at all the regional centres of the university and
Receive Only Terminals to be installed at all the study centres of the
university in Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh to impart education/training
to the learners through virtual classrooms using the Edusat network. q
Bhoj Vani an Internet Radio web portal for the students
of MPBOU to be launched from session 2005-2006. |
